I come from a family of obsessed foodies. It’s no wonder then that food is on my mind, pretty much always! If I’m not cooking, eating or talking about it … I’m probably thinking about it. I must admit that food wasn’t always an obsession. As a child, I was a very fussy eater. It was my mum’s brilliant repertoire of food and sheer persistence which made me give in, and from then on, there was no looking back. I am essentially self-taught. My food does not reflect the food of any particular part of India as my mum is from the North and my dad is from the West coast. Mumbai was their home for many years before they moved to Goa where I grew up. The mix went a step further when I married a Mumbai Goan and welcomed into the family my sister in law who hails from the South. Each connection brought with it a distinct cuisine unique in itself, yet connected in some way to its counterparts. Over the years, I have observed and learnt from women who, to me, are masters of their own cuisine. They toiled in the kitchen making meals from scratch using recipes that have been handed down generations. It is this food I hope to humbly bring to the table along with the wonderful stories that go with it. Join me on my culinary journey to unravel the secrets of mum’s home cooking.
